Knitting Up A Storm!

Quickie post - look what I finished:

Bonne Marie's Mode Cable done in 100% wool to be worn as a winter vest. I added one extra cable in the front and ran a cable up the back centre:

Thanks again Bonne Marie for a great pattern- I LOVE it. I have some Tess Design ribbon yarn to make a summery mode cable.

See ya'll in 10 days - I am off camping with my family.

I do believe the Mondo Cable is coming along very nicely as a warm wooly vest:

I love how this simple cable pops in this 100% yarn. Wow, I love it. I keep knitting this piece because I love doing the cable, and I also want to see how it looks as a vest. Starting Friday I am off on vacation for two whole weeks, so I hope I don't get kicked out of any rings - I'm just on vacation!

Our plans are to drive to Niagara Falls for 3 days, 2 nights. When we are there we want to see the Cirque de Soleil show on Sunday, Darrian Lake park on Monday and bike ride/rollerblading through Niagara on the Lake on Tuesday. And that is not all folks. On Thursday I'm taking my girls and some of their friends to Wild Water Kingdom and then on Friday we are off for 10 days of camping, boating and outdoor fun. I am so excited for this vacation because it is jammed packed with fun, fun, fun!

Have a good day folks.

On the weekend I was about to go out my front door, when I saw this:

The squirrel went into the little garbage bag I had on the front porch and took out the lone piece of pizza and starting to eat it. Too freaking funny. Chris, the girls and I just stood there and watched him enjoy the cheese slice. Hee Hee Hee.

Chris' grandmother has recently been moved to a nursing home and to make the adjustment easier, I thought I would make her a blanket. Knitting does take a bit longer than crochet (I think), so I decided to make a ripple crochet blanket for her. I chained 152, and started it. Who knows how long it will take to finish, but I am on a mission to hand it over to her.

Have a good one.

I think I should change my blog title to Spinning Up A Storm. Man, spinning is so freaking addictive. I didn't think I would love it this much, but apparently I do! I am spinning with Coppworth roving which, I believe is a beginner's roving because it is pretty easy to spin. Here is my first two ply:

My 2nd:

In the pictures it doesn't appear the above two skeins are that different, but they are. The plying I did on the 2nd skein is much more even than the 1st one. Even my mom who has no idea what a proper skein should look like, said the 2nd one looks much, much better. I am planning to dye the off white skeins dark purple.

Here is a bundle of singles:

And some more coppworth I bought at MW&SF:

Even though I am sure this 'yarn' I've made won't feel good next to the skin due to the scratchiness, I'll make each of my girls a hat, so I know, I spun it, I dyed it and I knit it! Woo hoo.

In other news, I decided to dye my hair back to my original colour:

The colour I changed it from was a very light copper, and now I have a nice deep rich brown with flecks of auburn. I LOVE it. When Chris saw it, I didn't think he would like it, but the big smile on his face told me how he was feeling. Well, maybe it wasn't just his face that told the true story.

Have a good one.

I have been a busy little beaver lately - I have two FOs today, count'em two! First up is the koigu socks:

These are a bit big around the toe area, but otherwise a nice fit and feel.

Next up, my third Chickami:

I used 4 balls of Patons Cotton Tops on 3.5mm needles in size 36". It is a bit big, but I wanted it this way so I could wear it without having to squeeze anything in!

Last night I went to Lettuce Knit for the SnB, but didn't stay too long, my stomach was extremely upset and I couldn't handle knitting and talking, etc. Not like there was a lot of conversation directed my way - I didn't feel too welcome, but when you are the new gal you have to make more of an effort, I guess. Oh well. I did buy Fleece Artist Sock yarn in yellow:

I am so unsure why I like this colour so much but I do! I started my first sock already because I can't wait to see how they look! Have a great day.

I am back from a wondering weekend spent up at a friend's cottage on Balsam Lake. Man, what an awesome time we had. We taught four kids to water ski! 8 out of the 10 kids tried, including my older daughter J (she didn't get up) and four were successfully in riding the waves. What a wonderful view seeing those little ones get up on skiis. I LOVE it.

I also got a chance to ride behind the boat on skiis and on the knee board. The knee board is so much freaking fun, I wish I could have had more turns. I love the fact you can do 360's on them, jump the wake and go side to side.

If Chris and I have more adults on the boat who like to do water sports, we normally do a double knee board, (we have two of them), which is way more fun than being by yourself. He usually will splash the crap out of me, but who cares, I love kneeboarding with him. We also have a wakeboard which I won't try (I doubt I'm strong enough), but Chris did and this is the first time he popped out of the water so smoothly he looked like a pro!

On the knitting front, I finished the 2nd koigu sock and almost finished the chickami. I am working on the front now and hopefully in a few days I'll have another summer tank top to wear. Other than tired and a bit sun burned, I had a fantastic weekend. If you leave in Canada, I hope your long weekend was grand.

I think I have turned into a pattern stalker! I just bought the Mondo Cable pattern from Chicknits. Man, I have NO self control. Actually I have admired this shell for awhile, but didn't have the yarn so I restrained myself. Then I had a brilliant idea while perusing my stash list, why not see if I have stash yarn to make a winter version and wear it as a vest over a blouse. Lo and behold I do have 750 yards of a olive green 100% wool that I didn't have enough to make a cardi or sweater so this is the perfect patch.

Yeah for me. I can't wait to start it. I love the yarn and hope it looks good as a winter vest. Time will tell.

I was spinning last night and this morning and man, I love spinning. It is so freaking addictive. I am going to a friend's cottage this weekend and wish I could bring it, but alas I can't. There will be about 10 adults and 10 children, so it won't be peaceful nor enough room to spin. Oh well. Plus everyone except my husband and kids won't stop ribbing me over the wheel, plus, I hope to be behind the boat on a pair of skiis or a kneeboard or a tube!

Anyway have a great weekend - here in Canada it is a long one, so I'm making the most of it.

Look what I finished:

(Click here for a clearer picture)

I used Lewiscraft's Cotton Sensation in pale pink, size 37" (blocked the crap out of it!), knit exactly 5 balls and used 3.5mm needles. The pattern is great, but the yarn not so much. When I make another, it will be in much nice yarn, that is for sure.

I love Bonne Marie's patterns and I think it shows. I've made a black chickami and a green one, a ribby cardi, one ribby shell and just started a third chickami. Thanks Bonnie Marie for such excellent, well fitting patterns.

On the spinning front, things are getting a bit easier for me. I spun for about 15 minutes this morning and only once did the roving break, versus every other second! Unsure how good the yarn is, but I'll keep practicing, because as we all know, practice makes perfect.

I found out this morning I didn't get the job and I am very disappointed and feeling very sorry for myself. Such as life. I'll be back to my normal self soon enough I am sure.

Have a good one.
